Precious Kutsirai is a smallholder poultry farmer in Murewa. She was on the edge of losing her flock due to infectious bacterial disease during the COVID 19 lockdown. Now she is overwhelmed with joy after her infected birds were saved through mobile phone advisory and assistance from the pigad poultry experts.
Precious Kutsirai uploaded pictures and narrated how her chickens were behaving on the poultry WhatsApp platform, upon realizing that it was not possible for the extension staff to travel to her homestead during the lockdown.
The WhatsApp platform was created by pigad and the Smallholder Poultry Union to enhance information dissemination. The birds have since responded well to the treatment.
